There are multiple FactoryLogix global options used to control aspects of the Specification Management library.
Specification Management - Color Coding (Process Planning category) allows you to specify color coding for tree items in the Specification Management Library:

Pending Approval Color applies the selected color to any item in the Specification Management library that has had an approval process initiated but not yet completed.

Draft Color applies the selected color to any item in the Specification Management library that has been modified (added, edited, or deleted) but not saved saved, or has been saved but is pending an approval being initiated.

Added Color applies the selected color to a characteristic, specification, or document introduced on the current node of the tree.

Inherited Color applies the selected color to a characteristic, specification, or document that is inherited unchanged from the parent node.

Override Color applies the selected color to a characteristic, specification, or document that is inherited from the parent node and then changed.
Specification Management (Process Planning category) allows you to block specific authors from initiating approvals:

Block Author from Initiating Approval - When set to True, the original author of a modification to a Specification Management item will not be permitted to initiate the approval process for that item.
