Slow performance when logging in as an Active Directory user

KB Article administrator on-premise only

Issue

FactoryLogix takes an unusually long time to log in an Active Directory user or times out with an error. This typically occurs because FactoryLogix is attempting to contact multiple domain controllers, causing the login process to time out.

Diagnosis

  1. On the Application Server, open FactoryLogix Server Management and select System Logging.

  2. Enable Application, SQL, and Service logging at all output levels for the affected application (FactoryLogix Office, Operations, and so on), then select Apply to start logging.

  3. Attempt to log into FactoryLogix with the Active Directory user account.

  4. Once the error is reproduced, uncheck the Application, SQL, and Windows Service logging checkboxes and select Apply to stop logging.

  5. Navigate to the log file directory.

  6. Open the Application log and search for the domain controllers that FactoryLogix attempted to contact. Multiple domain controller entries confirm the cause.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, you need to configure the Active Directory domain controller.

  1. Log in to FactoryLogix Office using a non-Active Directory account (such as aegisadmin).

  2. Navigate to System Configuration > Global Options.

  3. Search for the Active Directory Domain global option.

  4. Confirm with the appropriate IT contact which domain controller is correct for your environment.

  5. Enter the correct domain controller in the format DC=<DomainControllerName>, then select Save.

  6. Log out of FactoryLogix, then log back in using the Active Directory user account. The login should complete quickly.
