Keyence SR-X barcode scanners: connection to inForce units and scan trigger

KB ARTICLE

Overview

This article describes how to connect and configure Keyence SR-X series barcode scanners with inForce units, including scanner settings, keyboard mode configuration, and conveyor trigger wiring.

Prerequisites

  • inForce unit (configured and operational).

  • Keyence SR-X series barcode scanner (SR-X300, SR-X300W, SR-X100, or SR-X100W).

  • USB adapter (provided with the SR-X series scanner).

  • Conveyor sensor (installed and connected to the production line).

Connect the scanner to the inForce unit

  • Plug the SR-X series scanner into the inForce unit using the provided USB adapter.

Configure the scanner

  1. Configure the scanner with the following prefix and suffix settings so that the inForce unit correctly identifies barcode data:

Setting

Value

Hexadecimal

Header/Prefix character 1

\

5C

Header/Prefix character 2

[

5B

Terminator/Suffix character 1

]

5D

Terminator/Suffix character 2

. (period)

0D

  1. Additionally, set the Special key conversion option on the scanner to HID standard.

Configure keyboard mode on the inForce unit

  • Ensure the inForce unit is set to Keyboard mode to allow the scanner to transmit barcode data as a text string that the inForce unit can interpret.

Wire the conveyor trigger

To operate the inForce unit as a stand-alone device, the scanner must be triggered when a unit is detected on the conveyor.

  1. Identify the IN 1 control cable (green wire) on the SR-X scanner and the INCOME cable (white and blue wire).

  2. Connect the wires from the control cable to the conveyor sensor; once configured, the scanner will trigger automatically when the conveyor sensor detects a unit ready for evaluation.

Optional: adjust trigger timing

  • If timing alignment issues occur between the scanner trigger and the inForce evaluation cycle, configure the scanner to delay the scan action by 1000 milliseconds after receiving the trigger signal.
