Enable logging in FactoryLogix Server Management

KB ARTICLE

Overview

When an error occurs or FactoryLogix is not performing as expected, enabling logging provides diagnostic data to help identify the root cause. Log data helps system administrators pinpoint areas of poor performance, assess application health, and diagnose runtime errors.

Warning

Enable logging only when actively troubleshooting an issue, or when an intermittent issue prevents reliable reproduction. Leaving logging enabled unnecessarily degrades system performance.

Enable logging

  1. Log on to the server or computer where FactoryLogix Server Management is installed.

  2. Start FactoryLogix Server Management.

  3. Select System Logging.

  4. Under Log Type, configure the following:

    • Select Application, then select Application under the log subtype and select From Executable Name. Select all applicable executables. Repeat this for SQL, selecting SQL and From Executable Name. Select all applicable executables.

  5. Under Misc Settings, specify a Log File Directory. Select a location that is easy to navigate to. The default FactoryLogix directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Aegis\ (a recommended alternative location is C:\Aegis Logs\).

  6. For ClickOnce application instances: Open Task Manager, right-click the ClickOnce instance of the application, and select Open File Location to determine the correct executable path.

  7. Leave all other Misc Settings, Log File Deletion Settings, and Rollover Settings at their default values.

  8. On the Formatting tab, leave all settings (Soap, SQL, and Windows Service) at their default values.

  9. Select Apply, then select Save Log Profile to save the current logging configuration.

Note

The SQL log type records database transactions and queries are generated by FactoryLogix applications. The Windows Service log type records activity for Windows Service executables such as FactoryLogix_ApplicationService.exe and FactoryLogix_LegacyService.exe.

Tip

To switch to a different logging configuration, select Load Log Profile and select the desired profile.
